Post a short blurb about your project. Think of this as a shortened version of an abstract. We will use this blurb as part of the conference presentation program for our end of term presentations. This first posting is due on 4/18/2016 before class.
NOTE: as a group, you will be tasked with articulating a blurb that provides a broad vision for the panel as a whole. (This may be a challenge depending on how closely linked your topics are). In addition to articulating your own blurb, each participant must also articulate a blurb that covers the entire panel. This posting that covers the entire panel is due by 4/25/2016 before the start of class.
Once all the entries are posted, the group will make a decision as to which blurb is the best and which one will be included in the conference presentation program.
Concussion concerns continue to grow despite the efforts and research currently being done within youth sports. Leagues around the nation have began changing rules and placing new procedures to better the safety of children within sports. This study will pull from players, coaches, and the public perception of contact sports to discuss what effective changes have been made already and what steps still need to be taken to create a safer athletic environment for children.
ReplyDeleteEmergency personnel of all occupations commonly have to suffer from exposure to traumatic situations. Intervention programs, referred to as Critical Incident Stress Debriefing (CISD), have often times been recommended for helping EMS responders cope with such exposure. However, the effectiveness of such programs has been held under scrutiny. These analyses ultimately aim to understand how effective CISD programs are in preventing or alleviating symptoms of PTSD among EMS personnel after being exposed to a potentially traumatic experience.

Group Title: New Programs and Alternatives to Prevent Long Term Health Issues"
ReplyDeleteWith the constant long-term health issues that comes with certain occupations that involve intensive physical strain as well the mental strain that comes with the occupations such as Being firefighter or a professional athlete, this group aims to identify these issues and explain the effects on the ones who choose to participate in them, as well identify possible programs and other alternatives that can capture the same environment as these occupations, without the physical and mental strain, such as E-sports.
My project is on what make e-sports a legitimate sport. Having the title of a "true" sport will bring new competition and will bring many more spectators as it will become a more respected form of competition. It is also necessary to change the way people define sports, as sports go beyond just the physical nature and are defined by the complex and competitive culture. E-sports also presents an opportunity to those who aren't physically gifted a chance to be a part of the competitive nature of sports.
